E-bikes, E-scooters, and Firearms Seized in Dublin Crime Operation

Dublin authorities have conducted a significant operation targeting the criminal use of electric vehicles, resulting in the seizure of numerous e-bikes, e-scooters, and other vehicles. As part of "Operation Meacán," Gardaí searched 63 locations and confiscated 38 e-bikes and e-scooters, three scrambler bikes, and one quad bike. This enforcement action also uncovered €8,000 in cash, approximately €83,000 worth of suspected drugs pending analysis, and a sawn-off shotgun with ammunition.

During the operation, a man in his 20s was arrested and is currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act at a garda station in the Dublin region. Operation Meacán, launched in December 2023, specifically targets the use of electric motorbikes, e-scooters, and e-bikes in criminal activities such as drug distribution, money laundering, firearm transportation, and drug-related intimidation.

In addition to the enforcement measures, Gardaí also focused on public engagement. They informed members of the public in the Dublin area about existing regulations for motorcycles, e-bikes, and e-scooters, as well as new regulations set to take effect this month. This dual approach aims to both disrupt criminal networks and educate the public on vehicle compliance.
