Earthquake of magnitude 3.4 reported in Colombia’s Santander department

A magnitude 3.4 earthquake shook Colombia on Sunday afternoon, with its epicenter near Los Santos in the department of Santander, the Colombian Geological Service reported.

The tremor occurred at about 3:51 p.m. and reached a depth of 147 kilometers. The epicenter was located 10 kilometers from the municipality of Los Santos.

After the Geological Service published its bulletin on X, users on social media said they had felt the movement in several parts of the country. Reports mentioned Cúcuta, Putumayo and Cali.

The agency invited people who felt the quake to complete its Sismo Sentido form through its official website. The article also recalled emergency recommendations, including preparing an evacuation route, identifying safe places and keeping a kit with water, a flashlight, a radio, nonperishable food and identification documents.

During an earthquake, residents are advised to remain calm and shelter in structurally safe areas, such as under a desk or near a column. They should avoid doors, windows and objects that could fall. Afterward, authorities recommend avoiding elevators, checking buildings for structural damage before re-entering and cutting gas, water or electricity supplies if it is safe to do so.
