Earthquake Recorded East of Kleifarvatn

An earthquake was recorded near Brennisteinsfjöll, east of Kleifarvatn, at 8:18 p.m. Initial figures put its magnitude at 3.4, but Iceland's Meteorological Office later revised the estimate to 3.0.

Several smaller aftershocks were detected. The Meteorological Office said earthquakes are common in the area, but this was the largest recorded there since Aug. 18, 2025, when a magnitude 3.8 quake occurred.

The office also received reports that the earthquake was felt in populated areas.
