Ecatepec Boosts Water Coverage to 85% Through Well Rehabilitation and New Tank Construction

The government of Ecatepec is significantly boosting its water service coverage, now reaching 85% of the population. This achievement is part of a broader effort to coordinate with federal and state authorities on key initiatives in water, health, security, and welfare within the Eastern Zone of the State of Mexico.

Municipal President Azucena Cisneros Coss met with Secretary of the Interior Rosa Icela Rodríguez Velázquez and Governor Delfina Gómez Álvarez to review progress on an integral plan aimed at transforming the region, which had been neglected by previous administrations. During the meeting in Mexico City, local mayors presented advancements in their territories, highlighting projects that are reshaping the area.

Cisneros Coss emphasized that the municipal government is committed to reaching 100% water coverage. This goal represents a substantial leap from the 35% coverage available to residents at the beginning of the current administration. To achieve this, Ecatepec has rehabilitated 24 potable water wells through a joint investment from federal, state, and municipal funds. Additionally, the National Water Commission (Conagua) has re-drilled five wells, with three already operational, including the Colosio 2 well which now supplies 37 liters per second to 30,000 inhabitants in the northern zone.

Further bolstering the water infrastructure, a Master Tank with a 5 million-liter capacity has been constructed in Ciudad Cuauhtémoc to serve the region. Plans are also underway to build a 10 million-liter tank to address severe water shortages in the Fifth Zone and the higher elevations of the Sierra de Guadalupe.

Beyond water infrastructure, Ecatepec is advancing in educational projects, including the construction of a CBTIS vocational school and a Rosario Castellanos University campus in Ciudad Cuauhtémoc. The municipality is also undertaking permanent road repaving projects and has seen a reduction in high-impact crimes due to its participation in the Unified Command structure, supported by the Navy Secretariat.
