Ecobici to Offer 588 Peso Annual Fare for Mexico City Residents, Students, and Seniors

The Ecobici public bicycle system in Mexico City is set to introduce a preferential annual fare of 588 pesos for its residents. This reduced rate aims to maintain Ecobici as one of the most affordable public transportation options in the capital. The discounted tariff will also be available to students and individuals over 60 years old. For permanent residents of Mexico City, the preferential rate will not be automatically applied. They must visit an Ecobici customer service center and present original and copy of a proof of address in their name to qualify. The company that won the bid for the service's renewal and operation until 2036, 5M2, must ensure clear communication of all tariffs, penalty schemes, and additional costs to users before they sign up for a membership. Additionally, the Ecobici management system needs to be capable of supporting various tariff modalities, as the service may introduce new payment schemes and operational improvements in the future.
