ECRL Fares Still Under Review, MRL Urges Public to Ignore Speculation

Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) has clarified that the fare rates for the upcoming East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) service are still under evaluation and have not been officially released. The company urged the public to disregard any fare information circulating on social media, labeling it as mere speculation.

According to MRL, any figures being shared online do not reflect the actual costs that will be incurred once the ECRL commences operations in January 2027. The company emphasized that the fare structure is currently being meticulously reviewed in consultation with various stakeholders. This includes close collaboration with the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) to ensure the final fares are not only reasonable but also competitive and convenient for users.

The fare rates for the ECRL are still under assessment and have not been officially announced.

MRL reiterated its commitment to providing a high-quality public transportation service that aligns with the goal of accessibility for all citizens. The ongoing assessment aims to strike a balance between affordability and the operational needs of the ECRL, ensuring it offers the best value to passengers.

Any fare rates circulating on social media are speculative and do not represent the actual rates that will be charged when the ECRL service begins operations.

Official fare rates will be announced by the Ministry of Transport once the assessment and approval process is finalized," MRL stated in a press release. The company acknowledged the public's enthusiasm for the ECRL project and requested patience while the official announcement is prepared.

The 665-kilometer ECRL alignment will connect Kelantan, Terengganu, and Pahang on the East Coast to Selangor on the West Coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Upon completion, it is expected to significantly reduce travel time, with journeys from Kota Bharu to Gombak estimated to take around four hours, compared to the current seven hours by road.
