Ecuador offers 3,000 scholarships for technical institute students

Ecuador's Ministry of Education has launched a scholarship program to support students in public technical and technological institutes. The initiative, offering 3,000 grants of $482 each, aims to combat dropout rates in technical higher education.

The financial aid, equivalent to one unified basic salary, is a single payment intended to help students cover essential living expenses such as housing, food, and transportation during an academic period. This measure seeks to alleviate economic pressures on students and their families.

Applications for the "becas de 482 dólares para institutos tecnológicos" program are being accepted online through the educacion.gob.ec portal from August 12 to August 21, 2026. The total budget allocated for this program is $1.4 million.

Selection criteria prioritize vulnerable students, including women who are victims of gender-based violence, individuals with permanent disabilities, those living in poverty, returned migrants, and members of indigenous communities. The ministry has stated that between 2024 and 2026, the state has provided 557,000 incentives and scholarships, with 60% directed towards women.
