Ecuador’s Electoral Council Accredits 354 Observers for Local and CPCCS Elections

Ecuador’s National Electoral Council approved the accreditation of 354 election observers on Thursday, September 3, 2026, for the country’s local elections and Council for Citizen Participation and Social Control elections.

Of those accredited, 352 are Ecuadorian nationals and two are foreign residents of Ecuador. All met the requirements set out in electoral regulations during the first registration period.

The observers can monitor different stages of the electoral process, including preparations before election day, voting, the counting of ballots and the proclamation of official results. Their accreditation allows them to conduct observation activities under the conditions established by electoral law.

The council’s third and final accreditation period will run from September 14 to 25, according to the electoral timetable. Interested citizens can check the requirements and submit applications through the council’s official website.

The council is also organizing the selection of 288,949 members of polling boards. Of those selected, 285,509 are registered voters in Ecuador and 3,440 are Ecuadorians registered to vote abroad. About 80% are university students, with high-school graduates, professionals and rural residents also included.
