Ecuador's President Noboa in Singapore to boost trade ties

Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa arrived in Singapore on Sunday, continuing his Asian tour aimed at bolstering commercial relations. Noboa, accompanied by his wife Lavinia Valnonesi and Foreign Minister Roberto Kury, landed in the Southeast Asian nation after visiting China. His itinerary includes a meeting with Prime Minister Lawrence Wong to explore avenues for strengthening bilateral trade. Foreign Minister Kury highlighted Singapore's strategic position as a logistics and technology hub, emphasizing the potential for Ecuador to export goods not only for Singapore's domestic consumption but also as an entry point into broader Asian markets. Upon arrival, Noboa was greeted by Grace Fu, Singapore's Minister for Sustainability and the Environment, who also oversees trade relations. The President was initially scheduled to travel to Vietnam after Singapore, but this leg of the tour was canceled. Noboa will return to Ecuador to attend the state funeral for his Director of Intelligence, Michele Sensi-Contugi, and his wife, Stephany Hollihan, who died in a helicopter crash in Kenya. Sensi-Contugi was a close friend and trusted official, prompting Noboa to declare three days of national mourning.
