Ecuador unveils promising squad for historic first Women's U-20 World Cup appearance

Ecuador is set to make history as its national team prepares for its first-ever appearance in the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. The Ecuadorian Football Federation officially presented the 21 selected players who will represent the nation in Poland this September. This marks a significant milestone for women's football in Ecuador, offering this generation of players a chance to etch their names in the sport's history.

The squad is a blend of talent from Ecuador's leading domestic clubs and promising young players who have ventured abroad. Notable inclusions are goalkeeper Doménica Palacios, who plays for Flamengo in Brazil, and forward Doménica Arboleda, a player for AC Milan in Italy. Head coach Eduardo Moscoso highlighted that the selection process involved extensive scouting and evaluation, focusing on the players' footballing level, professionalism, and potential to form a competitive unit.

Domestically, Independiente del Valle contributes seven players to the squad, while Liga de Quito has five representatives. Universidad Católica also has five players, and Barcelona SC has two. These domestic talents are complemented by the two international-based players, Palacios and Arboleda, creating a squad that is ready to compete at both national and international levels.

While the qualification itself is a historic achievement, Ecuador aims to go further and compete for a spot in the tournament's decisive rounds. Coach Moscoso revealed that the team's preparation has intensely focused on mental fortitude, a competitive mindset, and tactical adaptability. He acknowledged the challenge of facing seasoned World Cup teams but expressed confidence in the team's game plan, developed through thorough analysis of their opponents. Ecuador has been drawn into Group C, where they will face Ghana, France, and South Korea, with their opening match scheduled for September 6 against Ghana.
