Edirne Deputy Ediz Ün rejoins CHP after smuggling charges cleared

The Republican People's Party (CHP) in Turkey is experiencing ongoing resignations following a decision regarding its leadership. Amidst this political flux, Edirne Deputy Ediz Ün has returned to the CHP fold. Journalist Barış Yarkadaş reported Ün's reentry, which would increase the CHP's parliamentary representation to 45 members, from its current 44, after Özgür Özel formed a new party with 90 deputies.

Ediz Ün had initially resigned from the CHP in 2024 after facing accusations of transporting contraband cigarettes in his vehicle. At the time of his resignation, Ün stated his intention to clear his name and return to the party. He has now fulfilled that promise, announcing his return and expressing happiness.
