Education is a right, not a privilege: PM Amarasuriya

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya emphasized that education is a fundamental right for every child, not a privilege, during the 'Nena Isura - 2026' scholarship awards ceremony. The event honored the late Galduboda Gnānissara Nayaka Thero, whose memory inspired the scholarship fund.

The ceremony, held at the Temple of the Tooth Relic in Colombo, saw 460 students who successfully passed the Year 5 scholarship examination receive their awards. The 'Nena Isura' scholarship fund, organized by the Galduboda Gnānissara Thero Memorial Scholarship Fund under the guidance of Colombo Hunupitiya Gangaramaya Temple's Chief Incumbent Dr. Kirinde Assaji Nayaka Thero, aims to provide financial support to these students until they complete their advanced level education.

The event was attended by members of the Maha Sangha, Western Province Governor Haneef Yusuf, Prime Minister's Secretary Pradeep Saputhanthri, Defence Secretary Sampath Thuyyakkontah, General Secretary of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna Tilvin Silva, and Chairman of Wijeya Newspapers Ranjith Wijewardena.
