Education Ministry Announces 23,020 Substitute Teacher Appointments for 2026-27

Greece’s Education Ministry has published the names of 23,020 substitute teachers appointed for the 2026-27 school year. The appointments cover primary and secondary education, special education and general education.

The ministry said 11,502 appointees would work in special education and 4,121 in general education in one group of placements. A further 3,048 special education teachers and 4,109 general education teachers were also appointed, along with 200 teachers for music specialization courses in music schools.

Thirty-five planned positions could not be filled because there were not enough candidates. Thirty-four of those posts required certified proficiency in Braille or Greek Sign Language. The ministry also approved 40 temporary secondary-education substitute teachers for the Sivitanidios Public School of Arts and Vocations.

Separately, 142 secondary-education teachers were appointed to the Public Ωνάσεια Schools under fixed-term private-law contracts. The ministry also announced 6,786 appointments of special educational and support staff for the same school year.

All appointees must report and take up their posts from Monday, Sept. 7, through Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026. Instructions on placement and service procedures are available through the ministry’s website.
