EFCC plotting to freeze Osun accounts ahead of gov poll - Adeleke

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has raised an alarm, alleging that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is plotting to freeze the state government's accounts ahead of the August 15 governorship election. The governor stated he had received credible reports indicating the EFCC has finalized plans to seize all Osun State Government accounts, as well as those of top government officials.

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has raised an alarm over credible reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has concluded plans to freeze all Osun State government accounts.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, Adeleke described such a plan as "the height of lawlessness." He asserted that the alleged plot is intended to paralyze government activities in the crucial period leading up to the election. The governor firmly maintained that there is no legal basis for the EFCC to take such action, emphasizing that the anti-graft agency does not possess the legal authority to freeze the accounts of a state government.

This allegation emerges against the backdrop of the upcoming governorship race, where Adeleke of the Accord Party is seeking re-election against the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji. Governor Adeleke has consistently voiced concerns about political pressure and interference aimed at destabilizing his administration prior to the election.
