Egypt, Cyprus discuss boosting strategic ties, regional de-escalation

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Cypriot counterpart Constantinos Kombos held a phone call on Monday to bolster bilateral ties and address regional developments. They highlighted the deep historical relationship between their countries, recently elevated to a strategic partnership.

Egypt’s keenness to maintain coordination at all levels with Cyprus, particularly in light of Cyprus’ current presidency of the Council of the European Union, commending Cypriot support for Egypt within various EU institutions.

Abdelatty expressed Egypt's commitment to ongoing coordination, particularly given Cyprus's presidency of the EU Council, and thanked Cyprus for its support within the bloc. Both ministers agreed on the importance of enhancing economic and trade cooperation, including expediting a memorandum of understanding on employing Egyptian labor in Cyprus. They also discussed maximizing opportunities for transferring gas and energy from Egypt to Europe, specifically linking Cypriot gas fields to Egyptian infrastructure.
