Egypt Denies Salmonella Outbreak Amid International Concerns

Egypt's Ministry of Health has officially denied any ongoing Salmonella outbreak within the country, assuring the public that surveillance systems are actively monitoring both local and international health conditions. This statement comes in response to reported outbreaks linked to international supply chains in several other nations.

Minister of Health Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar emphasized that while Egypt monitors global health events, this does not signify an immediate risk. The ministry's decision-making process relies strictly on domestic data, surveillance metrics, and verified international reports. He confirmed that no unusual Salmonella outbreaks connected to recent international incidents have been recorded nationally.

Monitoring global health events does not indicate a current risk within Egypt, but rather serves as a proactive early warning measure.

Dr. Amr Kandil, Deputy Minister of Health, noted that the Preventive Medicine and Public Health sector continuously tracks infection patterns. Globally, incidents under review include over 306 cases of Salmonella Enteritidis in Belgium and 207 cases, with one death, reported in the United Kingdom. These international events have led to product recalls in Belgium and Luxembourg.

To ensure public safety, the Ministry of Health outlined essential food safety practices. These include thorough hand washing, separating raw and cooked foods, cooking food to safe internal temperatures, proper storage of perishable items, and purchasing from trusted sources. The ministry reiterated that its epidemiological surveillance infrastructure remains proactive and operational to protect public health.
