Egypt reviews port development projects to boost economy and exports

Egypt is prioritizing port and logistics development to fuel economic growth and enhance the competitiveness of its exports. Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Rostom highlighted this strategy during a visit to Rashid Port in Beheira Governorate.

Egypt’s continued investment in ports and logistics is supporting economic growth, improving trade infrastructure and increasing the competitiveness of Egyptian exports.

The government aims to modernize ports, expand maritime services, and bolster the transport and logistics sectors. At Rashid Port, Rostom and Governor Jacqueline Azar inspected a LE700 million development project spanning 48,000 square meters. This phase includes new berths, repair workshops, and administrative facilities.

The project is part of the government’s strategy to modernize ports, expand maritime services and support the transport and logistics sectors.

A planned second phase will introduce fish refrigeration, ice production, a customs building, and a fishing supply factory, broadening the port's service offerings. Officials anticipate the project will generate over 5,000 jobs, attract new investments, and stimulate the local economy.

The project is expected to create more than 5,000 direct and indirect jobs, attract new investment and strengthen the local economy.

The visit also encompassed restoration efforts in historic Rashid, including the Al-Amasili House, an Ottoman-era landmark. Rostom emphasized that integrating infrastructure improvements with historical preservation will boost tourism, safeguard Egypt's cultural heritage, and promote sustainable development.
