Egypt to Host CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup Draws

The headquarters of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in Cairo, Egypt, will host the preliminary draw for the upcoming season's Champions League and Confederation Cup.

The draw for the first preliminary rounds of the 2026-2027 CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup is set to take place on Thursday, August 6. The event will commence with the Confederation Cup draw at 2 p.m. local time (11 a.m. GMT), followed by the Champions League draw one hour later.

CAF announced that the ceremonies will be broadcast live on the organization's official YouTube channel, allowing fans across the continent to follow the proceedings. The preliminary rounds will proceed up to the Round of 32, with the final stages from the quarterfinals onwards being played in a two-legged knockout format, adhering to the away-goals rule.

Notably, the Round of 16 in both competitions will adopt a group stage format. Teams will be divided into four groups of four clubs each, with the top two from each group advancing to the quarterfinals. South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns are the reigning champions of the CAF Champions League, while Algeria's USM Alger won the CAF Confederation Cup last season.
