Egypt to raise entry visa fees from January 2027

Egypt will introduce a standardized administrative fee of $15, or the equivalent in foreign currency, for entry visas, transit visas and selected consular services provided by its diplomatic missions abroad.

The measure takes effect on Jan. 1, 2027, under Prime Minister Decree No. 2553 of 2026. Published in the Official Gazette on Aug. 30, the decree repeals conflicting provisions and establishes one fee structure for Egyptian missions worldwide.

The $15 charge will sit on top of existing base visa fees. Travelers will therefore pay different final amounts depending on the type of visa they seek and its underlying cost.

The decision follows an earlier increase in March 2026, when Egypt raised the visa-on-arrival fee for foreign tourists from $25 to $30. The country will continue using its digital entry system, including electronic visas with QR codes for automated border checks. Citizens of 118 countries currently qualify for visas on arrival.

Officials describe the standardized structure as a way to simplify consular procedures before the new rules take effect.
