Eight arrested in Paraguay-Brazil border operation against counterfeit medicine ring

An international operation dubbed "Narciso" has led to the arrest of eight suspects accused of operating a sophisticated network for manufacturing and selling counterfeit medicines along the Paraguay-Brazil border. The operation aims to dismantle a criminal enterprise involved in the illegal production and smuggling of anabolic steroids, diet pills, and other controlled substances.

The arrests occurred across both nations, with six individuals detained in Brazil and two in Paraguay. Brazilian authorities executed search warrants in Foz do Iguaçu, leading to five arrests, while a separate operation in Santa Terezinha de Itaipú resulted in one more arrest. In Paraguay, agents from the Tripartite Command of the International Cooperation Division, accompanied by fiscal agents, raided a property in Ciudad del Este, arresting two key members of the alleged criminal organization.

During the extensive raids, law enforcement seized a significant cache of evidence, including high-end vehicles, firearms such as revolvers and a 12-gauge shotgun, mobile phones, a laptop, a tablet, and a substantial amount of cash. Investigations suggest the group operated in a structured, interstate manner, with identified hubs in Brazil's Federal District, Goiás, Paraíba, and Paraná, as well as in Paraguay.

The suspects are believed to be responsible for the illegal manufacturing, falsification, storage, and sale of anabolic steroids and other slimming medications. They allegedly used hormonal substances, diuretics, stimulants, and other components in their clandestine production processes. The operation plans a total of 45 arrest warrants and 50 search and seizure orders, alongside the freezing of approximately 32 million reais (about $6 million) in assets belonging to the investigated individuals.
