Ekiti PDP Denies Backing Makinde for President, Disowns APM Alliance

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has firmly rejected any association with a group claiming to represent the party in an alliance with the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

For the avoidance of doubt, the Ekiti State PDP, under my leadership, hereby distances itself completely from both the APM and any purported presidential mobilisation project for Governor Seyi Makinde.

This internal dispute arose after a faction, identifying as Stakeholders of the PDP and the APM in Ekiti State, announced at an event in Ado Ekiti that they had begun mobilizing grassroots support for Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde's presidential bid in the 2027 election. The group presented Makinde as the APM presidential candidate.

No such mobilisation has been authorised, inaugurated or undertaken by the Ekiti State PDP leadership.

However, the PDP State Chairman, Lanre Omolase, issued a strong statement on Friday, titled “Ekiti PDP Disowns Makinde, APM,” to clarify the party's position. Omolase declared that the Ekiti State PDP, under his leadership, completely distances itself from both the APM and any purported presidential mobilization project for Governor Makinde. He emphasized that no such mobilization has been authorized, inaugurated, or undertaken by the recognized PDP leadership in the state.

The party therefore urges members, supporters and the general public to treat any claim purporting to speak for the Ekiti State PDP without authorisation from its recognised leadership as a product of speculation and political mischief.

Omolase urged party members, supporters, and the general public to disregard any claims that purport to speak for the Ekiti State PDP without official authorization, labeling them as speculation and political mischief. He also cautioned individuals and groups against using the PDP's name, structure, or authority for personal political gain. The chairman reiterated the party's commitment to due process and institutional discipline, stating that only authorized organs and spokespersons can communicate official positions. The PDP leadership advised the public to exercise diligence before attributing political stances to the party, especially concerning presidential politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
