Ekiti PDP endorses ex-governor Fayose’s appointment as REA chair

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has formally backed the appointment of former Governor Ayodele Fayose as the Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA). The party described the position as a significant national assignment, signaling its confidence in Fayose's capacity to lead the federal agency.

In a statement released Sunday, the PDP's Ekiti chapter announced that its State Working Committee had unanimously agreed to "release" Fayose for the role. This decision, communicated to the party's National Working Committee, highlights Fayose's extensive experience in public administration and leadership. The party believes these qualities are essential for expanding electricity access to underserved rural communities nationwide.

Fayose, who previously served as Ekiti State governor from 2014 to 2018 and again from 2003 to 2006, remains a prominent figure in the PDP. His appointment by President Bola Tinubu's All Progressives Congress (APC) administration has garnered attention due to his opposition party affiliation. Despite this, Fayose has maintained a cordial relationship with Tinubu and has not joined the APC.

The Ekiti PDP chapter views Fayose's appointment as an opportunity for him to contribute to national development, moving beyond partisan politics. The party also congratulated him on the upcoming commissioning of a monument in his honor at the Ekiti State Government House, recognizing his contributions to the state's development. They pledged their support and prayers as he assumes his new responsibilities, expressing certainty that he will excel.
