The Greek Left Cooperation (EL.A.S.) has launched a strong criticism against State Minister Akis Skertsos over his statements regarding the recent large fire in Kassandra, Halkidiki. EL.A.S. accused the minister of rushing to assess the disaster's extent before the fire was even fully extinguished and before a complete picture of the consequences emerged.

Specifically, EL.A.S. challenged Skertsos's claim that approximately 1% of the "first leg" of Halkidiki was burned. They contrasted this with the 2006 fire, during which, according to the minister's own statements, 25% of the same area was affected. The group views this comparison as a tactic to promote the current government and serve internal party conflicts.

They argue that the government's "cynical communication mechanism" is more concerned with settling internal party scores than addressing the needs of those affected in Halkidiki.
