El-Rufai’s family disowns viral letter to ADC leadership

The family of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has publicly disowned a letter circulating online, which they claim was falsely attributed to the politician. The letter, dated July 14, 2026, was addressed to the National Chairman and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The former Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises and former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, CON, wishes to alert the public that a fake letter is in circulation, purported to have been signed by him, titled Urgent Message.

Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, speaking on behalf of the family, issued a statement on Thursday describing the document as "fake" and "spurious." He emphasized that neither the content nor the handwriting matched the former governor's. The family attributed the circulation of the fake letter to "traducers" seeking to sow confusion and division within the party, condemning the "politics by fakery" as primitive.

The purported letter, which had come to the attention of PUNCH Online, reportedly expressed concerns regarding the nomination of Isah Ashiru as the ADC's governorship candidate for Kaduna State. It alleged that Ashiru's nomination created internal tension because he allegedly failed to complete the party's online membership registration by the April 30, 2026 deadline, a requirement stated as constitutional. The letter called for intervention from the party's national and state leadership to review the matter. However, El-Rufai's family reiterated that the document was fabricated and urged the public to disregard it.
