Elderly cyclist hospitalized with serious injuries after crash with truck in Kildare

A woman in her 80s has been hospitalized with serious injuries following a crash involving a truck while she was cycling in County Kildare. The incident occurred on Monday morning, shortly before 10 a.m., on the R414 Rathangan Road, a section locally known as the 'Cow Pastures' in Monasterevin town.

Emergency services responded to the scene, and the woman was taken to the Mater Misericordiae Hospital in Dublin for treatment. Gardaí confirmed that she suffered "serious injuries" as a result of the collision. The driver of the truck involved in the incident did not sustain any injuries.

Following the crash, the road was closed to facilitate a forensic examination by Garda technical staff. Traffic diversions were put in place to manage the disruption. Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward and are requesting anyone with relevant dashcam footage from the area around the time of the incident to contact them.
