Elderly Sister Assaults Disabled Brother on Taipei Street; Social Services Intervene

A distressing incident unfolded in Taipei's Wenshan District, where a 62-year-old woman was filmed assaulting her 56-year-old disabled brother on a public street. The confrontation occurred after the brother, who relies on his sister for long-term care, refused to leave the roadside following a medical visit.

Bystander footage shows the woman repeatedly shouting at her brother, who sat on the ground refusing to move. In a moment of apparent frustration, she resorted to physical violence, kicking him and hitting his face, while also attempting to push his head down. Passersby, alarmed by the scene, promptly alerted the police.

Authorities identified the individuals as siblings, with the brother having behavioral challenges that necessitate constant care. Police believe the sister's actions stemmed from accumulated stress, leading to a loss of emotional control. The Taipei City Department of Social Welfare's Family Violence Prevention Center has since intervened, placing the brother in temporary care and offering social work services. The center emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards domestic violence and encouraged reporting through hotlines.
