Electrical Short Circuit Sparks Major Fire in Cirebon Rented House

A fierce fire engulfed a rented house in Cirebon, West Java, on Thursday night, May 28, 2026. Firefighters responded quickly to the scene in the Talun sub-district, preventing the blaze from spreading to adjacent buildings in the densely populated area.

The fire department received the initial report around 10:44 PM local time and dispatched a fire engine. The response was bolstered by additional units from the Cirebon City Fire Department and water supply vehicles to ensure sufficient resources. Firefighters worked to contain the fire by creating firebreaks and systematically extinguishing the flames.

Upon arriving at the location, members immediately began extinguishing the fire by searching the unburnt sections to cut off the path of the fire so it would not spread to other buildings.

According to residents, the fire is suspected to have originated from an electrical short circuit in a room on the north side of the house, which was being used as a warehouse. The presence of flammable materials within the room likely contributed to the rapid escalation of the fire, which then spread to adjacent rooms.

Firefighters successfully extinguished the blaze near midnight and conducted cooling operations to ensure no embers remained. While no lives were lost in the incident, the fire destroyed the structure of the rented house and all the furnishings within it.
