Electrical Storm Halts Mexico City Cablebús Service; Passengers Disembarked

Mexico City experienced significant disruptions on Saturday as a powerful electrical storm led to the suspension of service on Line 1 of the Cablebús, a vital public transportation system connecting Indios Verdes to Cuautepec.

The Cablebús operator announced the temporary halt via social media, stating that passengers were being disembarked from the cabins due to the severe weather. "Line 1 began disembarking users due to an electrical storm in the northern zone. Once the meteorological conditions are adequate, we will resume normal service operation," the statement read.

The storm prompted the Secretariat of Integral Risk Management and Civil Protection (SGIRPC) to issue an Orange Alert for several boroughs, including Cuauhtémoc, Iztacalco, Iztapalapa, and Venustiano Carranza. These areas were expected to receive between 30 to 49 millimeters of rain, accompanied by hail, prompting calls for extreme caution.

Additionally, a Yellow Alert was in effect for twelve other boroughs, anticipating 15 to 29 millimeters of rain, also with the possibility of hail. The adverse weather conditions highlighted the vulnerability of urban infrastructure to extreme meteorological events.
