Mexico City Issues Alerts for Heavy Rain and Hail

Mexico City issued orange alerts for heavy rain and possible hail in the Cuauhtémoc, Iztacalco, Iztapalapa, and Venustiano Carranza districts on Saturday afternoon and evening. The alerts forecast rainfall between 30 and 49 mm, with hail expected from 7:10 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. local time.

Yellow alerts were activated for the remaining districts of the capital, anticipating rains between 15 and 29 mm. Authorities warned of potential hazards such as water runoff, street flooding, and falling branches and trees. Social media users shared images of streets covered in ice and water, with some becoming "rivers" due to accumulated ice and water.

The heavy rainfall and hail caused disruptions to the city's public transport system. The STC Metro reported that a tree fell on the tracks of Line 5, leading to a suspension of service between La Raza and Politécnico stations. Service was provisionally operating between Pantitlán and La Raza.

Concerns were also voiced by residents regarding the potential impact of the inclement weather on the Harry Styles concert scheduled for Saturday evening at the Estadio GNP Seguros in Iztacalco. Users expressed worry on social media that the severe weather might affect the event.
