Electricity generation in Oman Increases by 5.7%

The Sultanate of Oman experienced a notable increase in electricity generation during the first half of 2026. Total generation reached 26,075.3 GWh, a 5.7% rise compared to the 24,676.6 GWh produced in the corresponding period of 2025, according to preliminary data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

Muscat Governorate led the growth, with its total electricity generation surging by 170.2%. Other governorates also saw increases: Al Dakhiliyah (39.5%), Dhofar (8.5%), Al Wusta (7.9%), and a collective 6.2% growth in North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, and Al Dhahirah. Conversely, North Al Sharqiyah and South Al Sharqiyah governorates saw a decline of 12.1%, and Musandam Governorate decreased by 1.7%.

Net electricity generation, which accounts for purchases by the Oman Power and Water Procurement Company and the Rural Areas Electricity Company, also increased by 5.9% to 25,343.8 GWh. Muscat Governorate again recorded the highest growth at 169.8%. Similar patterns of increase were observed in Al Dakhiliyah (39.7%), Dhofar (9.7%), Al Wusta (8.7%), and the Batinah and Dhahirah governorates (6.4%). North and South Al Sharqiyah governorates faced a 12.3% decline, while Musandam saw a 1.7% decrease.

In the water sector, however, total water production declined by 3.0% to 244,489.8 cubic meters from January to June 2026, down from 252,020.4 cubic meters in the same period of 2025. Muscat Governorate's water production fell by 6.1%. Production in other governorates also decreased by 2.3%. In contrast, Dhofar Governorate reported a 3.2% increase in water production.
