Nama Water Services moots production of biofuel through cultivation of Camelina plants

Nama Water Services is spearheading a pilot project to cultivate Camelina plants, a key sustainable crop for biofuel production. This initiative is being undertaken in collaboration with Hema Energy, aligning with Nama Water Services' dedication to environmental sustainability and green economy goals.

The project represents an innovative approach to utilizing recycled water as a strategic resource. It seeks to bolster food security, significantly decrease carbon emissions, and champion the transition to clean energy. The cultivation of Camelina is expected to contribute to diminishing the region's carbon footprint.

An integrated technical system will be established to assess Camelina's potential for carbon sequestration, alongside its economic viability. Nama Water Services will provide the recycled water, while Hema Energy will manage the technical aspects, operations, and data analysis. The project also garners support from national entities, including Sultan Qaboos University for research, the Environment Authority for environmental oversight, and the Oman Net Zero Centre to ensure alignment with the Sultanate's zero neutrality objectives.
