Elvedi set for Leeds move as £8.5m fee agreed

Leeds United has reached an agreement to sign Swiss international defender Nico Elvedi from Borussia Mönchengladbach for an initial fee of £6.8 million, potentially rising to £8.5 million with add-ons. The 29-year-old is scheduled to travel to England for his medical examination on Monday, marking the end of his 11-year tenure with the German club.

Elvedi brings significant experience to Leeds, having earned 73 caps for Switzerland and represented his country at the recent World Cup. Leeds manager Daniel Farke acknowledged the potential transfer after his team's 4-0 pre-season victory over Augsburg. This move is expected to facilitate the departure of fringe Leeds defender Sebastiaan Bornauw, who could join Hamburg on an initial loan deal with an option to buy. Leeds United is preparing for their Premier League campaign, which begins next Saturday with an away match against Nottingham Forest.
