Emirates Rolls Out World-First Electric Seat in Premium Economy

Emirates is putting a powered privacy screen at the centre of its new Premium Economy cabin, allowing passengers to raise or lower a full-height divider at the touch of a button.

The seat debuts on newly delivered Airbus A350 aircraft in a 28-seat cabin arranged in a 2-3-2 configuration. Emirates says the design gives passengers more control over their personal space while they relax, dine or work.

The Premium Economy seats measure 20 inches wide and offer up to 39 inches of seat pitch. Each seat is fully electrically powered, with an integrated Passenger Control Unit that lets passengers adjust their preferred seating position.

Comfort features include Safran Seats' U-Dream leather headrest, whose adjustable wings provide support for the head and neck. A manually deployable leather footrest is designed to improve relaxation and reduce leg fatigue.

The cabin also introduces wireless charging to Emirates Premium Economy for the first time. Each seat has USB-C charging and a tray table with an integrated phone holder. Passengers can use the airline's ice entertainment system on 13.3-inch 4K HDR touchscreens. The new A350 aircraft will also offer additional exterior camera views, including left and right perspectives alongside the existing forward and downward views.
