End of an era in the Sejm: New lawmaker rooms to feature dark wood after decades-old decor criticized

Polish lawmakers' living quarters in the "New Parliamentary House" are slated for a significant overhaul, moving away from the dated beige and satin interiors to a more modern aesthetic featuring dark wood accents. This seven-year renovation plan aims to update rooms that have largely retained their appearance since the building's opening in 1989, a style many politicians have jokingly compared to the Edward Gierek era.

Previously, plans to demolish the building and construct a new one were considered, particularly during a previous government's tenure, but these were ultimately shelved.

While some politicians have criticized the plan as merely "powdering a corpse" – a superficial fix for deeper issues – the decision to renovate rather than rebuild signifies a shift in strategy for modernizing the parliamentary facilities.
