Endangering Lives? Reckless Driver’s Vehicle Seized and Sent for Destruction

Kuwait’s General Directorate of Traffic arrested a suspect accused of reckless and negligent driving that endangered his own life, other road users and their property.

The Security Control Department identified the suspect after monitoring a video documenting the incident and conducting the necessary investigations. Authorities took legal action and transferred him to the Central Prison.

They also impounded the vehicle after completing the legal procedures for its confiscation in favor of the Ministry of Interior. Under Article 33 bis of Kuwait’s Traffic Law, a conviction for reckless or negligent driving that endangers lives or property can carry more than one year and up to three years in prison, a fine of 600 to 1,000 Kuwaiti dinars, or either penalty.

The law also allows a court, on its own initiative or at the Ministry of Interior’s request, to order the vehicle’s confiscation. The General Directorate of Traffic said it would not tolerate conduct that threatens road users or puts lives and property at risk.
