"Energesman" to Comply with Court Order on Vilnius Waste Plant Transfer to VAATC

The operator of the Vilnius mixed waste sorting plant, "Energesman," has stated it will comply with a court ruling that allows the Vilnius Regional Waste Management Company (VAATC) access to the plant's facilities and equipment. Algirdas Blazgys, head of "Energesman," told Elta that the company never obstructed VAATC's access to its property, a point VAATC had sought through the court.

However, Blazgys clarified that VAATC did not request, nor was granted by the court, the right to manage and use the buildings and equipment. "Energesman" intends to continue fulfilling its contractual obligations for regional waste management. "We must continue to fulfill our obligations under the operational contract and manage waste – we will continue to do so," Blazgys stated.

This development follows VAATC's termination of the mechanical and biological treatment (MBA) plant's operational contract with "Energesman" due to alleged difficulties in meeting obligations. A legal dispute ensued, with "Energesman" seeking to halt the termination. The court found no grounds to suspend the decision but granted "Energesman" a 20-day period to rectify the identified shortcomings. The court's ruling on July 20th set a deadline of August 7th; if violations are not corrected by then, the contract will be considered terminated, according to VAATC.

Previously, the court prohibited "Energesman" from hindering VAATC's waste management activities at the Vilnius MBA facility. The court deemed the extreme circumstances and "Energesman's" actions sufficient grounds to apply temporary protective measures and regulate the situation at the site until a final decision is reached.
