England’s Toney charged with assault after London nightclub incident

England and Al-Ahli forward Ivan Toney faces legal proceedings after being charged with assault causing actual bodily harm. The charge stems from an alleged incident on Wardour Street in Soho, central London, on December 6.

The 30-year-old striker, who began his professional career at Northampton Town before moving through several English clubs, including Brentford where he gained prominence, was formally charged on July 31. He is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on September 24.

A spokesperson for Toney confirmed that the player acknowledges the charge. "Ivan acknowledges the charge and although he is naturally shocked, he looks forward to being allowed to clear his name in court," the spokesperson stated. Toney's representatives have maintained his intention to use the upcoming court appearance to clear his name.

The legal process unfolds as Toney continues his football career in Saudi Arabia, having transferred to Al-Ahli in 2024.
