Enrique Inzunza to leave Legislative Studies chair as Morena prepares committee reshuffle

Enrique Inzunza Cázarez will leave the presidency of Mexico’s Senate Committee on Legislative Studies after losing his membership in a parliamentary group, Morena’s Senate leadership confirmed.

Ignacio Mier, the party’s Senate coordinator, said the chamber would formally notify the full Senate on Tuesday that Inzunza was no longer part of the majority caucus. He said the change would follow the Senate’s rules and form part of a broader redistribution of committee chairs.

Committee presidencies are allocated among parliamentary groups according to their weight in the Senate. Mier said Morena’s own caucus would decide the changes, but he did not identify who would replace Inzunza. He said the senator’s departure from the committee chair would be completed in the coming days.

The timing of the reshuffle remains linked to the chamber’s final membership. Several senators have requested leave, and Morena does not yet know how many will return. Mier said the party would wait for the definitive composition before making the adjustments, which he expected could take place around the fourth week of September.

Mier also said the Senate was preparing to receive a constitutional reform bill on dual nationality. It could come to a vote during the third or fourth week of September once lawmakers complete the committee report. Initiatives on femicide, industrial property and foreign investment could advance during the final week of the month.
