Enugu State Forest Guard issues standing operational order

The Enugu State Forest Guard is undergoing a significant transformation with the introduction of a new Standing Operational Order. This comprehensive policy, announced by Commander Dr. Akinbayo Olasoji, aims to establish clear standards for the dress code, operational readiness, and overall professional appearance of all its officers and operatives.

The reforms are directly linked to the vision of Governor Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, who seeks to cultivate a security apparatus that is disciplined, intelligence-driven, technologically advanced, and highly professional. This enhanced structure is intended to safeguard lives, property, forests, and other critical assets throughout Enugu State.

As the operational activities of the Forest Guard continue to receive increasing public visibility through field operations, community engagements, television, radio, newspapers, and digital media platforms, it has become imperative to institutionalize uniform standards that reflect the discipline, professionalism, and values expected of a modern government security organization.

Headquarters Standing Operational Order No. 178/2026 outlines specific requirements, including approved uniforms for designated days, operational attire for field deployments like bush-combing, and standards for accoutrements, footwear, and personal grooming. Special dress codes are also established for administrative officers and the Provost Unit to ensure uniformity and easy identification.

Strict adherence to the order is mandated, with Directors, Commanders, and Unit Heads responsible for regular inspections. The Provost Unit is tasked with monitoring compliance and enforcing the provisions across all commands. The new order also explicitly prohibits unauthorized uniforms, civilian attire during official duties, and the use of improvised weapons, emphasizing the use of only Headquarters-approved equipment.
