ERC's 'Nahr Al Hayat Fund' treats children with congenital heart disease in Tanzania

The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has initiated a medical camp in Zanzibar, Tanzania, through its "Nahr Al Hayat Fund" to provide crucial diagnosis and treatment for children suffering from congenital heart disease. The initiative aims to offer life-saving interventions and long-term care to young patients in the region.

The launch event was attended by key figures, including Ahmed Sari Al Mazrouei, ERC Secretary-General, and Saada Mkuya Salum, Acting Minister of Health for Zanzibar. This high-level participation underscores the importance of the initiative for both the ERC and the Tanzanian health authorities.

During the camp, around 250 children underwent comprehensive medical examinations and specialized diagnostic tests. The assessments revealed that a portion of these children require complex heart surgeries, while others will need ongoing treatment and follow-up care to manage their conditions effectively.

The "Nahr Al Hayat Fund" has developed an urgent treatment plan for those requiring surgery. Some operations will be performed locally in Tanzania, demonstrating a commitment to building local capacity. However, for the most complex cases, the fund will bear the costs of transferring the children and their families to specialized cardiac hospitals in India, ensuring they receive the highest standard of care available.

Launched in 2023, the "Nahr Al Hayat Fund" is dedicated to providing healthcare for children with serious illnesses in various countries, with a particular focus on those needing specialized surgical treatment. Since its inception, the fund has been instrumental in saving numerous young lives, offering them a chance at recovery and a brighter future.
