Erdogan Marks 25 Years of AK Party, Details Turkey's Transformation

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan celebrated 25 years of the Justice and Development Party (AK Party), reflecting on the significant changes Turkey has undergone during his quarter-century in power. He asserted that his party has fulfilled approximately 90% of its political promises and manifesto commitments since coming to power in 2002. Erdogan declared that the AK Party is now entering its second quarter-century with a renewed commitment, stating, "Don't expect us to get tired." He stressed that the party's achievements are not a reason to slow down, as much work remains to propel Turkey into its next phase of development. The president highlighted the progress in the defense industry, infrastructure, public services, and the political system as key achievements of the AK Party's governance. He specifically pointed to the increased self-sufficiency in Turkey's defense industry, noting the country's transition from relying on imported military equipment to producing its own warships, drones, helicopters, tanks, missiles, and submarines. Erdogan also underscored advancements in the economy, health, education, and transportation sectors, describing the projects undertaken as the largest in modern Turkish history. He stated that the AK Party has used its electoral mandates and state resources to expand the economy, accelerate development, and strengthen Turkey's global position. The party was founded on August 14, 2001, with a slogan that roughly translated to "Closed to darkness, open to light."
