Erhabor eager for WAFCON experience

Portsmouth goalkeeper Comfort Erhabor is on the cusp of a potential competitive debut for Nigeria's Super Falcons in their opening Women's Africa Cup of Nations match against Malawi. This appearance would officially cap-tie her to the Nigerian national team, closing the door on representing the Netherlands, where she was born, or England, where she grew up.

Erhabor, who is also eligible to play for Nigeria through her parentage, shared her initial nervousness upon receiving her first senior call-up. "I straight away called my mom and I told her about my call up. I was a bit nervous because I did not really know what to expect. But I am excited to step into the experience," she told the Super Falcons' media team.

The young goalkeeper also expressed her enthusiasm for training alongside Nigeria's first-choice keeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie. "It feels unreal, that is probably one of the people I really looked the most up to in women’s football. To get to train alongside her and learn from her, it is something really special," Erhabor said, identifying Nnadozie and former German international Manuel Neuer as her primary inspirations.

Nigeria aims to reclaim the WAFCON title, seeking a record-extending tenth championship. They begin their campaign against Malawi, having previously secured a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over hosts Morocco in the last final.
