Erral Matik Releases 'Journey To Zion' Single Ahead of EP

Reggae artist Erral Matik is set to release "Journey To Zion," the inaugural single from his forthcoming EP, "Ras Wires For Real." The conscious reggae track, penned by English songwriter Simon Woodward, delves into the universal themes of struggle, perseverance, and the quest for peace and purpose.

To me, it’s about moving through life’s struggles towards peace, purpose and something better.

Matik, who adopted the name Erral Matik to signify a new phase in his career, formerly known as Swift Mereo, found a deep personal connection to the song's message. "I didn't try to imitate somebody else's experience. I found the emotions in the song that connected with my own life and sang it from there," he explained. For Matik, "Zion" transcends a physical location, symbolizing spiritual freedom, inner peace, and achieving a better state in life.

Woodward, inspired by his love for reggae music since the 1980s and his own periods of reflection, composed "Journey To Zion" in late 2025. Initially conceived for Woodward's digital reggae concept "Ras Wires, Born Digital," the track evolved significantly when Matik began performing it. Woodward recognized Matik's unique ability to imbue the lyrics with authentic emotion and a natural reggae feel, stating, "Erral has authenticity and range in his voice. There’s genuine experience, emotion and a natural reggae character in his delivery. He doesn’t simply sing the words, he brings them to life."

The song was later transformed into a live recording with the collaboration of Jamaican musicians at BPM Jamdung Studio, under the direction of Master "Making It Real" Wayne. This human element, added by the musicians, gave the track the "human feel, movement and personality that made it ‘For Real,’" according to Matik. Woodward emphasized that technology served as a creative foundation, not a replacement for the musicians' contributions, crediting them with infusing the project with humanity and cultural authenticity.

The selection of "Journey To Zion" as the lead single marks the project's progression from its digital origins to a more organic, "For Real" iteration. The EP and its lead single signal a new chapter for Erral Matik, who describes his current artistic identity as "more mature, more focused and clearer about the music and message I want to put out."
