Escaped sheep causes full closure of A14 highway

The A14 highway near Ludwigslust, Germany, experienced a temporary closure in both directions due to an unusual obstruction: a sheep on the loose. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon when the animal was spotted running erratically across all lanes of the highway, prompting immediate police intervention.

Police officers responded to the scene after the sheep's panicked movements on the roadway, which included being near the central barrier, created a hazardous situation. Fearing a potential accident, authorities made the decision to close the A14 in both directions to ensure the safety of motorists and to facilitate the safe capture of the animal.

After approximately an hour and a half, officers successfully apprehended the sheep, which was unharmed despite its ordeal. In a notable display of care, two officers carefully carried the exhausted animal out of the danger zone. Efforts to locate the sheep's owner were initially unsuccessful.

Consequently, the sheep was taken to a nearby solar park and reunited with a flock of other sheep. The incident, while causing a traffic disruption, concluded without any injuries to the animal or drivers.
