Estonia's Nights Darken as Luminous Clouds Fade, Solar Eclipse Approaches

The enchanting nights filled with luminous night clouds are drawing to a close, heralding the arrival of darker nights. However, these darker nights are not devoid of wonder, offering their own celestial narratives and allure.

The vast expanse of the Milky Way will continue to stretch across the star-studded sky, scattering its pale, bright sparks. Observers were recently treated to a spectacular display of green aurora, shimmering in the twilight glow of the setting sun over the weekend.

Adding to the deepening night, a solar eclipse will occur on Wednesday. The Tõrva Astronomical Club advises that the moon will obscure approximately 80% of the sun when viewed from Estonia. As this eclipse takes place shortly before sunset, viewers should select observation spots with a clear view of the western horizon or utilize elevated structures. Crucially, protective eyewear, such as eclipse glasses, smoked glass, welding goggles, or the inner material of an old floppy disk, must be used to safeguard eyesight during observation.
