Estrella Palacios returns as Mazatlán mayor after 72-day leave and appoints new security chief

Estrella Palacios Domínguez returned to the mayor’s office in Mazatlán after a 72-day temporary leave and immediately named a new head of public security.

Palacios notified the city council on Friday afternoon that she would resume her post. In one of her first acts after returning, she appointed Gabino Ulises Jacobo Guerrero as municipal public security secretary.

Jacobo Guerrero previously served as an operational supervisor in the state public security secretariat. He holds the rank of Commander C and has 18 years and six months of service. Officials also said he holds doctoral studies in Social Justice Systems.

At the appointment ceremony, Palacios said the administration was committed to strengthening operational work and supporting the proper functioning of the public security corporation. José Cervantes Noriega will take over as the secretariat’s new operational director.
