EU Ambassador Lorenzo pays farewell call on Foreign Affairs Minister Khanal

The European Union's Ambassador to Nepal, Veronique Lorenzo, made a farewell visit to Foreign Affairs Minister Shishir Khanal, reflecting on the strong bilateral relationship between Nepal and the EU.

During their meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Lorenzo thanked the ministry for its helpfulness, activity, and responsiveness. She also expressed her appreciation for Minister Khanal's leadership. The ambassador indicated the EU's interest in collaborating with Nepal on mountain and water-related issues, aligning with Nepal's governmental priorities. She also mentioned potential cooperation in ensuring safe, systematic, and decent migration, an area of key importance to Nepal.

Safe and decent migration is one of the key priorities of Nepal, adding that the government is committed to the protection of the Nepali diaspora abroad.

Minister Khanal welcomed the EU's proposal on migration and requested further details for consideration. He also discussed Nepal's upcoming hosting of the second 'Sagarmatha Sambaad' and sought the EU's support for Nepal's transition from Least Developed Country status to a middle-income country. Ambassador Lorenzo pledged EU support, encouraging Nepal to submit detailed action plans. The discussion also touched upon promoting Nepali art, culture, and freedom of expression, with the ambassador encouraging support for a Newa art exhibition.
