EU condemns North Korea's latest ballistic missile launch

The European Union (EU) has strongly condemned North Korea's recent launch of another ballistic missile, urging Pyongyang to adhere to United Nations Security Council resolutions. The EU reiterated its call for North Korea to abandon its nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs.

"The EU strongly condemns the launch, carried out yesterday, of yet another ballistic missile," stated EU spokesperson Anitta Hipper via social media. She emphasized that the launch constitutes "a violation of UN Security Council resolutions" and stressed that Pyongyang "must comply with its international obligations and renounce its nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles."

North Korea fired a ballistic missile toward the Sea of Japan on Wednesday. This action followed Pyongyang's criticism of Tokyo for labeling North Korea a "grave and imminent threat," which Japan cited to justify its military buildup. The launch also preceded key military exercises between Seoul and Washington.

South Korea's military reported detecting the launch around 6:00 AM local time from the Wonsan area in Kangwon Province, heading towards the Sea of Japan. The missile reportedly traveled over 700 kilometers. This incident represents the eleventh ballistic missile launch by North Korea so far this year. A short-range missile was launched from the same Wonsan area just the previous Thursday.
