European Commission agrees to 7.9 billion euros for Poland; KPO funds unlocked again

The European Commission announced on Monday that it has positively assessed Poland's request for a 7.9 billion euro (33 billion Polish zloty) payment under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (KPO). This approval unlocks crucial funding that had been previously held up.

A key condition for releasing these funds was the provision of laptop vouchers to Polish teachers. The Commission confirmed that over 500,000 teachers, representing more than 65% of the teaching staff, have received these vouchers. Additionally, the payment supports the purchase of 88 trams for the cities of Krakow, Poznan, and Wroclaw.

Poland submitted its fifth payment request on June 19. Under the KPO framework, funds are disbursed upon the successful implementation of reforms and investments. Poland is slated to receive a total of 54.72 billion euros from the KPO, comprising 25.28 billion euros in grants and 29.44 billion euros in loans. The deadline for fulfilling the plan's objectives is this year.
