European Marathon Champion Alisa Vainio to Compete in Finland-Sweden Athletics Match

Fresh off her European Championship gold medal in the marathon, Alisa Vainio is set to compete in the upcoming Finland-Sweden athletics match this weekend at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium. Vainio will participate in the 10,000-meter race on Saturday, according to the Finnish Athletics Federation.

Her coach, Jarmo Viskari, stated in a press release that Vainio has recovered as expected from the marathon held two weeks prior. "Recovery from the European Championships has gone well. There was initial muscle soreness in her legs, but it passed quickly. Alisa was able to resume basic training last week. She has been doing good, light training," Viskari reported.

This marks Vainio's return to the 10,000-meter distance at the Finland-Sweden match, having competed in the same event in Stockholm last year and Helsinki the year before. Her last track race with spikes was two years ago in Helsinki. Viskari mentioned that Vainio has been practicing with spikes again in preparation for the weekend's competition, and the "spike trial went quite well."

In addition to Vainio's race, hammer thrower Silja Kosonen and pole vaulter Wilma Heltelä, who also achieved success at the European Championships, will be celebrated at the end of the competition day on Saturday. Vainio secured her European marathon title with a commanding lead of nearly five minutes.
